Celebrate Indigenous Leadership – ANPL Social Media
I worked with Advance Native Political Leadership in the summer of 2021, producing social media and content strategy as they were beginning to establish national engagement programs. A few samples of this work, which engaged a Native audience and achieved brand growth, are below.

Indigenous Peoples’ Day (IPD) is a time to reflect on the progress our community is leading. Movements to change the name did not happen on their own, and are ongoing. It came about because Native activists fought for it, the people demanded it, and decision makers listened.
Our communities are growing in number. We are turning out in record numbers for primaries and elections every year, making a difference in close races from Arizona to Alaska to Maine. Yet recent data and analysis shows that although Indigenous people make up 3.1% of the national voting age population, we make up just 0.3% of elected offices. In a nation where more than 512,000 people hold elected office, that amounts to our community being underrepresented by more than 16,000 positions.
On this Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we are committed to ensuring that our legislatures, courts, and other decision makers are receptive to Native people — and that our decision makers are Native people.
In honor of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we ask you to celebrate with us today by taking your own first step toward running for office, or encouraging someone you know to take the next step into leadership.
Are you or someone you know ready to run?
